The Bankura horse is the best-known form in Bengal’s terracotta tradition: a tall, prancing horse with a long arching neck, built up by hand from clay rather than cast in a mould.
Each piece is modelled, dried slowly and fired, which leaves the warm matte surface of fired clay and small variations in proportion from one piece to the next. No two are identical.
Place it on a shelf, a console or a low table — it holds a room on its own.
